Annoying People

I really get annoyed when people suddenly stop liking a band simply because they've become mainstream. "Omg.. they're stealing my band! They're crap now." Fuck off. Just because bands such as Green Day got more mainstream success and became "popular" doesn't make their music any different (well, not normally anyway). Green Day are an absolute gem of a band, with music to be admire by anybody. In most cases, when a band does go mainstream it is because their music has been taken to a new level, and made even better than before, so stop moaning and go listen to them again. They're still the same people, with the same aspirations and music.

Ya know what also grinds my gears? Scene kids. Skinny jean wearing, Foals listening, NME reading, Topman shopping, Mighty Boosh watching, attention seeking faggots. I'm not saying that any of these things are bad (except attention seeking), but it's the manner in which they do it that annoys me. They try to be cool by being totally uncool, effectively making them uncool. But of course because they're "indie" they must be original and cool, no? No! The amount of indie kids I see and talk to in Bromley, Blackheath or just at school says to me that their are so many of you, that no you are not original, independent or, for the matter, cool. Most of these people are also just "fad-following-fake-fucks" which also annoys me. Just be yourself asshole.

Other people who annoy me are those who are rich, yet pretend to be poor and try to get people to feel sorry for them. I admit that my family are pretty well off, but we just be ourselves and feel greatful for what we've got. No attention seeking from me thank you sir! fin

Reviewing Music

I've just been listening to the album "Illmatic" by NaS. It is one of the defining hip-hop albums of the 90s, and is well, extremely good. His lyrics are (to be cliché) very original, but (not being cliché) they really ARE good, not just good in the sense that they rhyme well, or they have some minimal lingering meaning, but they do actually tell a story and send messages across. This is what annoys me about most music reviews I see on the internet, they are either ridiculously and needlessly wordy or just way too simple. I like to see a non-biased and readable review (a good example being http://pitchforkmedia.com).

For instance, the NME's reviews are, on the odd occasion, fairly good, but on the whole they are rather annoying, because the NME have a wide variety of reviewers, all with their own tastes, who just say what they personally like or dislike about this band or album, rather than an actual review. There are also a number of websites who's reviews are about as reliable a ninety year old pensioner. And of course, you will always get a grumpy old, well respected, music critic (á la Robert Christgau) who can't seem to bring themselves to give Michael Jackson's "Ultimate Collection" more than 3 stars. Some people are just ignorant fools I guess.

As for actual music, "In Rainbows" by Radiohead was probably record of the year for 2008 along with the Fleet Foxes eponymous debut. Such depth and variation in one album, it really shows you don't need to have a lot of songs in an album for it to be good (in fact, this so called 'filler' normally leads to an album being less respected as a general work), and in this case for it to be amazing. Radiohead have constantly produced fantastic albums over the year, with the possible exception of "Pablo Honey". Radiohead are one of my favorite bands of all time, simply because of their music. I can even give reasons why it's good, to show I'm not being biased. Firstly, Thom Yorke has an amazing voice, no really amazing. Secondly, they use such a wide range of instruments to create new, experimental sounds. They also have such consistency in their music, in that each and every album is very good, despite each one being completely different.

Just A Starter Post

Good evening/morning/whatever it is where you are. I've just made this blog, inspired by the truly, well inspirational Asher Wycoff. This is something like my 6th blog, and this one probably won't last long, but hey, hopefully I'll be proved wrong. At the moment I'm listening to some old reggae music by the fantastic Jackie Mittoo (I highly recommend his works). In my hand I also have some music originating from the Caribbean, "Dancehall: The Rise of Jamaican Dancehall Culture". I will get round to listening to it tomorrow sometime.

You may wish to know that I am in a steady, alternative rock band called Blue Shift. We have a Myspace page, and you could probably find it if you searched our name in Myspace Music. I am the lead singer, although I also play keyboard and dijeridoo (no really!). Anyway, I must go as my eyes feel as thought they are about to shrivel up due to lack of sleep. Good night!
